Ferruccio Villa, Head of Smart Metering Regulation for the Electricity and Gas sectors, Italian Regulatory Authority for Electricity and Gas, Italy.
Ferruccio Villa joined the Italian Regulatory Authority for Electricity and Gas in 2002. He works with quality of electricity supply and his current services include continuity of supply, voltage quality and commercial quality regulations. Since 2006, he is the Head of smart metering regulation for both electricity and gas sectors. He is member of the ERGEG Retail Market Functioning Task Force (formerly Customer Switching TF). He is the author of many papers on quality of supply and smart metering regulation.

Andrei Z. Morch has worked at SINTEF Energy Research, Department Energy Systems since 1999. He was a project manager for several European and national R&D projects related to strategic planning on deregulated electricity markets, implementation of Automatic Meter Reading systems, Distributed Generation, implementation of DRR and Energy efficiency actions and Final Customers’ behaviour. He is coordinator for “Initiation of Nordic AMR Forum” project, which is supported by Nordic Energy Research.

CEER The Council of European Energy Regulators works to facilitate the creation of a single competitive, efficient and sustainable internal market for gas and electricity in Europe. CEER also maintains close working relations with regulatory authorities in North America and Central and Eastern Europe.
ERGEG The European regulators’ group for electricity and Gas is an Advisory Group of independent national regulatory authorities to assist the Commission in consolidating the Internal Market for electricity and gas.

Alan Chandler, Global Strategy Manager, LogicaCMG, UK
Alan Chandler has been at LogicaCMG for 32 years. He has held senior roles as a technical strategist, responsible for product strategy, IT infrastructure and software engineering techniques and has a wide understanding of the details of electricity liberalisation and related market rules. Using that knowledge he has helped local LogicaCMG units around the world set up energy and utility practices and supported them in winning key projects.

Ferry Cserép is CEO and co-founder of NETINIUM®, a company established in 1990 that offers advanced IT solutions that transform businesses into real-time enterprises. Between 1999 and 2005 -in addition to his duties at NETINIUM®- he was chairman of the VLN, a national trade organization representing manufacturers and system integrators in Echelon’s LonWorks technology for building automation. Here he played a key role in uniting international sister-organizations to streamline European marketing and standardization efforts.

Petri Trygg, Reseacher, Tampere University of Technology, Institute of Power Engineering and Managing Director, PowerQ Oy, Finland.
Petri Trygg got his M.Sc. in Tampere University of Technology (TUT) in 2003 he is also the managing directior of “PowerQ Oy”. The company is specialized in metering information analysis e.g. power quality monitoring and web-applications. He is currently doing his Ph.D. studies and is working as a part time researcher at TUT. The focus fields cover business model analysis in energy metering and distribution. Latest studies cover life-cycle cost analysis of metering processes in Finnish electricity distribution companies and development of AMR additional value features.

Sarah Rönnberg received the BSc degree from Luleå University of technology, Skellefteå Sweden in 2006. Currently she is working as research engineer at the same university. Her main interest is the behaviour of end-user equipment and problems concerning power line communication between 3 and 148.5 kHz.

Ulrik Stridbaek has worked as a Senior Policy Advisor, Electricity Markets at the IEA since April 2004 focusing on energy policy issues on market reform, investments, natural gas in power generation and nuclear power. Most recent publications are the IEA books Lessons from Liberalised Electricity Markets from December 2005 and Tackling the Investment Challenges in Power Generation from May 2007.

Dr Sarah J Darby, Research Fellow, Environmental Change Institute, Oxford University, UK
Dr Sarah Darby joined the ECI in 1995 and gained her doctorate there, looking at social, behavioural and educational aspects of energy use. Sarah Darby was awarded an interdisciplinary fellowship by the Economic and Social Research Council, running from April 2007-2010, to carry the research into domestic energy feedback. During this time she was also a part of the external evaluation team for the UK Demand Reduction Pilot.

Nigel Orchard, CEO, Pilot Systems, UK.
Nigel started Pilot Systems in 1989, following his work at Landis and Gyr in the development of one of the first electronic meters. Nigel established the FLAG protocol jointly with Siemens (then Ferranti – Ferranti Landis And Gyr).  Nigel continued his pioneering work in metering with the CHIRPS kernel software developed in conjunction with Siemens and GEC Meters (now Elster). Nigel is one of the founding members of the EU funded European Smart Metering Aliance, managed by Beama with a key objective to raise awareness amongst all energy users.

Karl Wills, Managing Director, Abacus Billing, UK
Karl is an independent consultant with a focus on Smart Meter Information systems and their effective deployment.  Previously, Karl was CEO of Abacus Billing, a company that specialised in Utility and Telecomms Billing and Information systems.  Karl holds a Masters degree from the University of Manchester and is a visiting fellow at Manchester University's Strategy department.  Karl is a member of the British COmputer Society, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, a fellow of the RSA and on the steering committee for the SSME UK Network (Services Science, Manufacturing and Engineering Network UK).
