He has conducted research and consultancy during the past 10 years in over 40 countries for over 300 energy and utilities organizations including Shell, EDF, ABB, Fortum, ENECO, RAO, E.ON and Electrabel as well as other leading organizations such as Nokia.

Mario van Essen
Capgemini Global, Consulting

Mario van Essen has been working at Capgemini Global Consulting (Energy & Utilities global retail lead) since 2005. He has 18 years of energy & telecom market experience. His specialisation is in customer operations and restructuring of these businesses (Cost to Serve management). Mario is experienced in general management and (re)structuring, financial and business modelling, corporate finance (start-up funding, acquisitions, spin-offs and sales of business units), reorganisations and marketing management. He is project specialised in billing en front- & back-office restructuring and "carve-out" projects as well as outsourcing. Prior to his position at Capgemini Global Consulting he worked for 3 years with McKinsey at the start of his career, before entering the business of independent contract management. He holds a MSc in Business Economics and a BSc in Applied Energy Technology as well as a Harvard Executive MBA.

Bob Hand
Chairman, Affinity Solutions

Bob Hand formed Affinity Solutions in 1995 after more than 15 years in various affinity marketing positions, including affinity schemes director for Bain Hogg (now Aon) and Managing Director of Age Concern Enterprises. 
Since the onset of de-regulation in the UK energy market he has worked with a number of major energy providers, including EDF, Npower and Eon ( Powergen). Their work has included advising these providers on their customer retention and loyalty strategy, and the development of affinity partnerships. Until recently Bob was also a non- executive director of one of the largest energy switching companies in the UK.
