Belpex day-ahead prices spike at EUR 500/MWh

The settlement price for day-ahead baseload delivery came out at EUR 168.53/MWh on the Belpex exchange Friday, with the price hitting a high of EUR 500/MWh during hour 1.
elpex data showed that exports fromFrance to Belgium will run at full capacity (945 MW) during all hours Saturday, while imports from the Netherlands will be at full capacity (1162 MW) apart from hour 8 and 9.
The high spot prices in Belgium also had an impact on Dutch prices, traders said. On APX, prices for day-ahead delivery settled at EUR 87.93/MWh in base, which was EUR 21.82/MWh higher than the previous day.
“The problem is in Belgium , that’s for sure,” said one Dutch-based trader. Traders could not confirm that the Belpex price had spiked on the back of outages in Belgium , however.
The Belpex price for peakload delivery, hours 0900 to 2000, came out lower than for baseload, at EUR 154.34 /MWh. Prices for Saturday delivery are traditionally lower than on weekdays due to lower demand.
