Nord Pool will extend the opening hours for its carbon products to 18.00 CET in order to be competitive with trading times in London.

Furthermore, the Oslo-based exchange will allow for trading “until five or six” in the afternoon for its German and Dutch power contracts to match OTC and exchange trading  in the respective countries, CEO Torger Lien said in an interview with Montel Powernews. “So much happens after we are closed,” he commented.

He said the new opening times would not apply to the Nordic power contracts. “We notice that there is very little OTC trading in these contracts after 15.30, but if this changes, we have to react.”

Lien could not give a specific timeframe for the plans, although hinted that they would be in place “sometime this summer or autumn”.  “The proposal was positively welcomed in our market council on Wednesday,” he maintained, saying preparations were already underway to open longer.
