Course set-up:
This course will cover the range of topics on fundamental models, including basics concepts, modeling approaches and details, software overview, handling of uncertainties and risks, and application in relation to analysis and decision making.
The course will take the form of lectures, discussions, demonstrations and model exercises on the participants' laptops. GAMS will be used as modeling language, but no previous knowledge of it is required.
Course Leader:
Hans Ravn has worked thirty years with mathematical modelling and analysis in the electricity sector. Work has included positions at Danish and Mexican research institutions, the Danish Energy Agency, energy companies and a system operator. For the last five years he has worked from his own company, doing research and consultancy for national and international agencies and companies in relation to the electricity sector. Topics include wind power, combined heat and power, gas system analysis, security of supply, demand response, imperfect competition and spot market clearing algorithms. He is manager on the open source Balmorel model project.
