Finnish power consumption in July diminished by 3 per cent year-on-year, totalling 6.2 TWh, according to fresh figures from the Energy Industries association (ET).

For the first seven months of the year, consumption moved down 2.4 per cent on average, to 51.6TWh. Meanwhile, net imports went up 4.8 per cent to 9.2 TWh for the same period. Production totalled 42.3 TWh, down from 43.9 TWh one year ago.

Due to abundant precipitation, hydro power output increased by 19.1 per cent to 10 TWh, while nuclear generation declined by 0.3 per cent to 13.1 TWh for the period January-July.

Meanwhile, thermal production dropped 14.7 per cent to 19 TWh.

If the mild and wet weather continues, 2008 will be a historical year, breaking the trend of a continued bullish demand outlook.
